Instrument Technician

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Instrumentation Technician to become member of a small team of Technicians based at Compressor Stations who are responsible for operation and maintenance of their base compressor station plus supporting activities at other compressor stations and also transmision pipelines. In order that consistently high levels of plant availability can be assured a standby rota is in place. The Compressor Technician will have a core discipline but is expected work as part of a multi-disciplined team. Technicians will be expected to undertake all aspects of installation, commissioning, operation, repair and maintenance within their respective discipline of either Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation.
? BTec National Certificate or NVQ level 3 (or equivalent)
? Approximately 3 years relevant experience
? An understanding of appropriate Company standards and instructions
? Assessed as competent against STC framework, with detailed understanding of Safe Control of Operations documentation.
? Valid current Driving Licence
? Willingness to participate in a published standby or shift roster (as approped)Although the post holder has no direct budgetary responsibility, they contribute to the overall effective operation of the site on which they occupy, they make contribution to the overall process by;
• Ensuring that critical spares and stock attributable to their sphere of competence are available on site when required.
• Minimising waste in terms of time and materials
• Effectively communicating with others to ensure that plant maintenance is forward planned and understood.Although the post holder has no direct budgetary responsibility, they contribute to the overall effective operation of the site on which they occupy, they make contribution to the overall process by;

• To carry out such works in a safe and cost effective manner, by keeping up to date with technical advances and industry standards.
• To participate in the design and costing of minor modification work within the jobholder’s sphere of responsibility.
• To prepare plans and procedures for operations that may affect the network, for liasing with control room staff, and when necessary, to take part in the authorisation process for non-complex tasks.
• In the absence of either an Assistant Engineer, MDE or GFE Technicians are expected to oversee activities carried out by contractors on site thus ensuring the permitry system is maintained.
• In carrying out these duties, the job holder shall comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 by taking all reasonable care to ensure the health and safety of him/herself and others around them.
