Jark Healthcare launches innovative training scheme

In a first for the recruitment industry, Jark Healthcare has launched a new training programme for its carers, enabling them to provide learning support as well as medical help.

Sufferers from learning difficulties who develop a medical condition needing specialist care usually have to rely on two or more different carers. This disruption and lack of continuity can have serious emotional effects for the sufferer, upsetting their routine and affecting their overall wellbeing. To overcome this shortage of dual skilled carers, Jark has launched a training programme for experienced carers who also want to provide learning support.

Jark piloted the scheme with 11 carers in its Southend office. All are now working in learning disability or integrated care environments, with very good feedback being received from service users. Following this success, the programme is now being rolled out across Jark Healthcare’s other ten branches.

Kevin Farr, managing director of Jark Healthcare is pleased with the success of the initiative so far, “Having identified a shortage of carers able to offer this mix of skills, we’ve been able to develop a scheme that not only helps our care workers increase their own skills but also helps Jark Healthcare supply staff for integrated care clients, where a mix of enablement, support and hands on care is required”.

The training given by Jark will provide a grounding for carers who work towards NVQ qualifications in care and learning difficulties.
