The UK recession will officially be over on 10th May 2010

Recruiters need to be preparing for the recovery

The UK recession will officially be over on 10th May 2010 – that’s the latest prediction from Bill Boorman. The specialist business consultant to the recruitment industry says that recruiters need to be getting ready for when the recovery comes.

In his recent interview with XtremeRecruiting, Bill explained how we are in the third out of the four stages in a recession, where the temporary and interim market is rising, signalling the beginning of recovery. He advises recruiters to think about how they can maximise on their current business and be ready for the upturn in the permanent recruitment market, for example by starting to build candidate networks again.

“We’re in the recovery period now and that’s great news but we need to be thinking about how we position ourselves” says Bill. “We’re going to have a steady rise between now and May. The market won’t be as big as it was, it will take a few years to get back to the absolute height, but it will back and it will be back in force. Recruiters need to be getting ready.”

“I think the most important thing is looking at your product offering in terms of what service you’re offering. Right now it’s important to offer our clients value and to demonstrate what we’re doing. It’s absolutely essential to be more transparent and what I don’t think we’re very good at as recruiters is showing the value we’re bringing to an organisation. Clients and candidates are looking for value and understanding. The whole landscape of what we need to do as recruiters has changed and we need to re-train ourselves.”
