Helping students prepare for job hunting

Jark Healthcare teaches Norfolk students how to effectively write a CV to prepare for the World of Work.

Earlier in the month Jark Healthcare’s National Business Development manager, Paul Springall, took part in an employability workshop at Litcham High School in Norfolk. The day was organised by a local education business partnership (NWeS World of Work).

Paul shared his recruitment knowledge –which spans more than 10 years – with more than 100 local children.

He taught the students how to create an effective CV, showed good and bad CV examples and talked about how the children could make themselves stand out from the job hunting crowd.

Louise Eklins from Litcham High school said: “The students gained valuable experience from the NWES Wow team and Paul Springall from Jark. They have benefited from experts in their area giving them real life skills which they can then take with them for the future.”

Paul said: “I really enjoyed sharing my knowledge with the children. It was a brilliant day and I hope I passed on some of my experience to up-skill them for when they begin to enter the job market place.”

Croydon healthcare recruitment agency are succeeding

Local recruitment agency Jark Healthcare Croydon has doubled the number of temps on work assignments following the appointment of two members of staff, new client wins and expansion into other health and social care sectors.

Since branch manager Neil Maddocks and senior consultant Dean Aitkens joined the agency three months ago, temp hours have increased by over 40 percent. In addition, temps working on a regular basis for the agency – which specialises in providing skilled workers to the health and social care sectors – have doubled. Employee Charlotte Pain has also recently been promoted from resourcer to consultant after just seven months at the agency as a result of hard-work and showing real promise as a recruitment consultant.

The decision to expand into other areas has also led to further opportunities, as Neil Maddocks explains: “Branching out into new sectors like special education needs and substance misuse, as well as expanding opportunities in current sectors such as nursing, has been a great success. New client wins in these areas – coupled with a growing demand for highly skilled interim workers – have led to additional opportunities and us looking to grow our temp pool.”

Recent client wins include learning disabilities charity Mencap, Vitalise, which provides respite care for disabled and visually impaired people and their carers, and Bromley Council. Jark Healthcare Croydon is currently providing, on average, 150 temporary hours a week to support people with learning difficulties at Bromley Council.

A spokesperson from Bromley Social Services said: “Jark Healthcare has provided me with some of the best candidates I have seen in over the last six years that I have been running this service. The recruitment selection has provided us with highly skilled candidates that are reliable, hard working and have the ability to think out of the box. Well done to Neil and the team on providing us with a first class recruitment solution.”

Neil brings invaluable experience to the company, having spent the last four years in social care recruitment coupled with a strong background in health, social care and pharmaceutical sales – working in the sector for over six years. “Our agency is made up of a team with an extensive knowledge of the healthcare sector,” he concludes. “The building and maintenance of relationships is key to success and as an agency we’re committed to helping clients provide the best care through day-to-day support and providing them with high-calibre workers in the Croydon and surrounding area. We’re thrilled that the agency is going from strength-to-strength and we’re working hard to ensure the upward trend continues.”

Jark Healthcare Croydon is located on High Street and is headed up by Neil Maddocks. It is currently looking to fill support worker and healthcare manager vacancies. The branch can be contacted on 02087 601 968.

Opportunities for health and social care workers following success at recruitment agency in Norwich

Jark Healthcare Norwich, a local recruitment agency specialising in providing skilled workers to the health and social care sectors, is demonstrating how immune it is to the economy’s ills. Such is the local need for quality healthcare staff that turnover has increased by 30 percent in just three months and temp hours are up by 32 percent.

Client demand is at an all time high and new clients continue to come on board which has resulted in an increase in job opportunities for local workers. Jark Healthcare Norwich’s Gemma Pierce, who has recently been promoted to senior sector manager, explains: “We’re benefitting from this increase in demand with one of our highest ever numbers of temporary staff working in the sector. We’re committed to helping our clients provide the best care in Norwich and the East of England and as a result we’re looking to expand our temp pool. Healthcare recruitment is bucking the trend and actively looking for qualified staff. Top of our list is weekend staff, home care assistants, those with experience supporting dementia patients and specialist school staff.”

Jark Healthcare Norwich attributes its success to the launch of the branch’s Home Support division in May and the dedication and hard work of the team overseen by Gemma Pierce. Sarah Munday, Jark Healthcare’s managing director, comments: “The decision to expand into other areas such as the Home Support division, as well as expanding opportunities in current sectors such as nursing, has been a great success. These moves have been overseen by Gemma whose commitment to building and maintaining successful relationships with clients and candidates ensures this growth remains consistent month after month.

“We’re seeing clients return time and again for reliable and dedicated staff and it is imperative we ensure we have the talent to call upon. Norfolk seems to be a hotbed for high quality healthcare candidates and we urge all those with experience, including students, to get in touch.”

Downpatrick recruitment agency launches specialist home support division

A local recruitment agency specialising in providing skilled workers to the health and social care sectors has launched a dedicated Home Care Support division. Jark Healthcare Downpatrick identified a gap in the market for the much-needed service, which enables people to retain their independence and be cared for in their own homes.

The Home Care Support service, coupled with growing client demand, has led to an increase in job opportunities for local workers. As Jark Healthcare Northern Ireland area manager, Searlain McCormack explains: “There’s a huge demand for skilled domiciliary, nursing care professionals and mental health workers in the Downpatrick and surrounding areas. Our Home Care Support service offers an alternative to care homes – allowing clients to remain and be cared for in their own homes. We supply quality, fully trained, experienced staff to people who really need care, help and support and it is this that makes our candidates’ jobs some of the most rewarding.”

Jark’s Home Care Support service enables people to decide on the level of care and support they feel is appropriate. “For many people, the idea of moving into an establishment or having to consider selling a private home to fund care is unthinkable,” Searlain continues. “Our tailored, person-centred care plans can be based on anything from minimal personal care and light household duties through to full-time, live-in care with nursing intervention. As an agency we’re committed to helping our clients provide the best care in Northern Ireland and we put together flexible, bespoke, at-home packages to help do this.”

Jark Healthcare is regulated by The Regulation and Quality Improvement Agency (RQIA). Jark Healthcare Downpatrick is located at Downpatrick business centre and can be contacted on 02844 839 996.

Jark employee to cycle over 258-miles for charity

The wheels are in motion for a worker from Jark Industrial Norwich to begin a 258-mile cycle challenge across East Anglia. Simon Dyer is cycling solo to raise vital funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) this 7,8 and 9 October.

Simon is combining his support of EACH with his passion for cycling, as he explains: “I’ve planned the route from start to finish. I’m travelling across East Anglia – starting and ending in Norwich – with stops at Jark offices at Ipswich, Stevenage, Peterborough, King’s Lynn and Dereham. I’m hoping to complete around 90 miles a day and raise as much money as I can for EACH, of which I’m a big supporter. I’m relatively new to East Anglia so this challenge allows me to help raise money for the region’s hospices, as well as discover what the area has to offer.”

Simon has set-up a JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com/Simon-Dyer-0 where people can donate. He is also hopeful people will come and see him on the ride, as Simon concludes: “It would be great if people could come and cheer me on. I’ve been training a few times a week for the past few months and am looking forward to taking on the challenge. I start the route at 7.30am on Friday 7 October from the Jark Industrial Norwich branch on Queen’s Street. I’m also going to be auctioning off the bike at the end of the trip for EACH.”

Simon is branch manager at Jark Industrial Norwich, which specialises in providing skilled staff to the industrial sector. The branch can be contacted on 01603 618 288.

Jark Industrial Huddersfield seeking football success in the season ahead

Showing resilience, perseverance, dedication and team work – all essential qualities for business success - are Jark Industrial Huddersfield’s Ian Leaf, David Hansley, Graeme Sutton, Tomas Lukac and Kes Jasas. Together, with a couple of friends, they make up ‘The Jark Army’ who are determined to achieve success on the football field.

Playing together every Tuesday night for two years and enduring the nail-biting tension of fighting relegation until the bitter end, their position in the Corporate Division 1 of the Hull Outdoor league has been secured in the final few minutes of the last match of the season each year.

Captain Ian Leaf who is Jark Industrial Huddersfield sector manager comments: “Playing as ‘The Jark Army’ gives us the opportunity to network with other local businesses and strengthen our team spirit off the pitch. It’s a good way to have fun, keep fit and get involved in another side of the local business community. Yes, we do believe it’s the taking part that counts, but our view on the pitch is the same as off and we will succeed whatever and however long it takes!”

Paul Mizen, Jark managing director, comments: “The Jark Industrial Huddersfield team are inspirational in their ‘can-do’ team spirit and charitable endeavours. We last heard from the boys when Ian, David and Graeme took part in the Humber Bridge Half Marathon in June raising a significant amount of money for local charity FIND and Cancer Research UK. I’m sure everyone will join me in wishing them luck in the season ahead.”

JARK INVESTS IN AWR

Jark plc is investing in educating and advising employees and clients on the impact of the approaching Agency Workers Regulations AWR. Having held both a comprehensive staff training programme as well as a client seminar in Cambridge Jark is confident that its employees and clients will have all the skills necessary to ensure they are AWR compliant.
The AWR seminar was co hosted with Lawspeed the recruitment law specialist and presented by MD Adrian Marlowe. Adrian Marlowe also chair of the Association of Recruitment Consultancies ARC is recognised in the industry as a leading authority on legal recruitment and in particular the AWR.

The agenda covered the legal aspects of the implementation with strategy and commercial best practice. Paul Mizen group managing director of Jark plc comments: At Jark we are determined to prepare as best we can well before the legislation comes into effect in October. By ensuring our staff and clients are up to speed, we re able to keep our competitive edge and further strengthen relationships with clients.

Paul says that positive client relationships are key to successfully implementing AWR. As he continues: These new regulations are primarily an administrative burden for agencies to begin with. However agencies will also require a lot more information from their clients particularly on comparable employees within the business a key concern for AWR and its enforcement.

In the seminar Adrian educated Jarks clients on what the regulations and the process in which to find an appropriate bespoke solution. The seminar concluded with the fact that case law is probably only two years away and a combination of protective steps that retain current terms for hiring agency workers would remain advantageous for most agency workers. This combination should allow for multiple fall back positions.

Jark is currently following up the seminar with one on one sessions for attendees to help find the solution that best suits each business and agency need. The solutions to the AWR will be different for each hirer and in some cases there may not be one solution but a combination of approaches required to provide the best long term approach.

Jark employees have also been provided with practical guidance on AWR requirements from changes that will need to be made including operational solutions and effective planning and the day to day impact on business.

Jark recruits new area manager to support Industrial sector

Specialist recruitment agency Jark plc has recruited a new area manager to support its industrial clients and meet growing demand. Jamie Wingrave will help attract new business and provide management support to five Jark Industrial branches.

Working in recruitment for 15 years, Jamie has outstanding knowledge and expertise of the recruitment sector, as he explains: “I’m thrilled to be working with Jark and have been given a hands-on role developing the business and the branches. It’s my job to provide a great service to clients, help Jark exceed its budget and grow the business but also – on a personal level – to be a good mentor and motivate my team.”

Jamie returns to industrial recruitment after a stint in education, as Jamie continues: “I worked for a few years in education recruitment but have always had a real passion for the industrial sector – it’s where my strength lies. I really believe that my sales and management experience, knowledge of recruitment and determined attitude will be of benefit to Jark clients, candidates and staff.”

Jark Industrial is one of the top-10 independent businesses operating in the UK industrial recruitment market and is responsible for recruiting a range of industrial positions spanning warehouse and food production operatives, forklift drivers, packing staff, cleaners and ground maintenance staff. Jamie – who is from Chelmsford – will work across industrial branches at Tottenham, Ipswich, Maidstone, Reading and Southend.

Jark plc recruiting skilled European workers to meet growing UK demand

Despite fears that the opening of Germany and Austria’s job market could lead to a shortage of European workers, specialist recruitment agency Jark plc is continuing to recruit skilled foreign workers to meet growing UK demand. Jark’s specialist European recruitment team proactively recruited over 175 European workers from overseas in 2010 to fill both short and long-term projects and positions ranging from seamstresses to butchers. This number is set to increase in 2011 as Jark has already recruited 164 workers in the first half of the year.

Jark has been recruiting skilled workers from across the A8 countries – Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia – since the countries opened their doors in 2004 and gave European qualifications the same merit as the UK’s. To ensure a smooth transition for foreign workers and a robust recruitment procedure, Jark has a dedicated European Recruitment Manager, Irina Nanevic, who is responsible for meeting client demand and sourcing foreign workers. Irina’s specialist skills ensures clients and candidates are kept happy throughout the entire recruitment process. She makes sure that only the best candidates – and those guaranteed a job – come to the UK. Candidates are also tested, for suitability, productivity and skills, in their own country, which means there is no unnecessary time or expense wasted. Irina has a boundary-spanning role between Jark’s UK branches, meeting the demands and needs of clients and recruiting and looking after Jark’s European workforce. Despite the recession, the EU had approximately four million unfilled vacancies last year, many in professional sectors such as engineering, technology and healthcare.

For a recent project, Jark needed to recruit skilled seamstresses and over 100 European workers applied. Jark’s success rate is clear when considering that 33 people attended the test, 29 were offered a position, and 27 came to work in the UK.
In addition, Four Seasons Health Care, an independent healthcare provider of nursing homes, care homes and specialist units, asked Jark to fill temporary care worker posts over the summer months. The quota required was achieved and reserve candidates were placed on a waiting list. All have now taken up these positions.

Jark’s clients expect flexibility and perfect delivery, as Irina Nanevic comments: “Our emphasis is on matching clients and candidates, not overpromising, ensuring that we find the right people for the job and delivering an excellent service. We treat our workers extremely well – we often pay for travel and help them settle in a new country. I oversee the whole process from testing to ensuring that workers are treated well. We have to ensure that our European workers are treated the same as all our UK-based candidates.”

Jark prides itself on assisting clients with planning their production in advance, as well as being able to deliver workers at short-notice. The specialist recruitment agency counts a British luxury fashion house, who it has worked with for over two years, as one of its clients who benefits from the European service. Jark provides them with a number of skilled European seamstresses and Jark’s quality of workers is second to none as a representative from the luxury fashion house, explains: “Jark provides an excellent service – they understand the calibre of candidates we require, including the skills and experience we need in our specialist industry. They are adaptable, provide us with a great support system and can provide us with skilled staff at late notice.”
It has been projected that Europe will need 20 million skilled immigrants over the next two decades to deal with skills shortages. Jark’s attention to detail, thorough knowledge of European recruitment and incentive programme for workers is proving even more vital as Germany and Austria opened their borders from 1 May this year, as Irina explains: “While the majority of European workers want to come to the UK, I have noticed a difference in application rates as some workers are choosing to remain nearer their homes and work in Germany, Austria and other EU country’s which can be attractive due to high pay, free accommodation and close distance to their homes. It means that we have to work harder to highlight the benefits and incentives we offer and expand the range of sectors open to foreign workers – especially as demand from clients for skilled workers is high. I’m currently looking into the driving and engineering sectors to see what opportunities this presents for European workers.”
Irina speaks Lithuanian, Russian, Polish and English and recruits European workers across Jark’s various sectors, including industrial, healthcare and commercial. For more information on Jark plc call the head office on 01362 656 154 or visit www.jark.com.

Jark workers go back to school

Jark plc went back to school yesterday when it visited Year 10 students at Northgate High School in Dereham. To motivate students to consider their career options and provide insightful advice on how to stand out from other applicants, the specialist recruitment agency took part in a workshop, presented to over 280 students.

Representing Jark was Simon Dyer, Jark Industrial Norwich, and Kelly Cartwright, Jark Construction Norwich. Kelly explained what a recruitment agency does and gave advice on searching for jobs, while Simon spoke about communication skills and interview techniques. The workshop included role-plays and motivational exercises to help provide students with the confidence to apply for jobs.

“We were thrilled to be invited to this event as it’s all about helping more young people find work,” Simon Dyer, Jark Industrial Norwich branch manager, revealed. “It was great to help motivate and encourage students to find work, pass on some knowledge and advice, and show there are options for people of all academic levels. We’ve got a great system at Jark where there are various opportunities and a good progression path. People can move up the career ladder – from starting as a receptionist and becoming a manager.”

Both Paul and Simon joined the branch earlier this month to meet increased client demand and aid business growth.
Jark Industrial boys gets set for Humber Bridge challenge

Workers from local agency Jark Industrial are limbering up ready to run the notoriously hilly – and bumpy – Humber Bridge Half Marathon 2011. Three men from the specialist recruitment agency are supporting their chosen charities by joining around 2,500 runners to run 13.1 miles at 10am on Sunday 26 June 2011.

Inspired by their chosen charities and personal experiences, Graeme Sutton, Ian Leaf and David Hansley share their reasons for running the race below. Anyone interested in supporting the boys should visit their individual sponsor pages.

Graeme Sutton, 33, Jark Industrial Hull senior sector manager, lives in the East Riding of Yorkshire and is running for FiND
Graeme is running for local charity FiND, which works to improve the lives of people with severe learning disabilities. Graeme’s mum, who’s worked with special needs children for over 15 years and is a passionate FiND supporter, inspired Graeme to do some much-needed volunteer work for the charity.

Working alongside sister agency Jark Healthcare, Graeme has seen firsthand how hard carers work to provide support. Graeme says he has nothing but praise for the charity and is hoping to raise as much money as he can to help it continue its vital work.

Graeme has also set himself a personal goal of completing the 13.1 miles after breaking his leg playing football four years ago. Five operations later, including one to fuse three of his toes and insert nails and pins to a broken fibula and tibia, Graeme knows it won’t be easy but is determined to take on this challenge.

Ian Leaf, 31, Jark Industrial Huddersfield sector manager, lives in the East Riding of Yorkshire and is running for FiND
Ian is also supporting FiND, having seen the invaluable support it offers his cousin and her family. Ian’s cousin Louise has Down’s Syndrome and Ian strongly believes that FiND is helping to make her life more enjoyable. That’s why he’s keen to raise funds, as well as the profile, of the charity. To help his training, Ian has even had a gym built in his house!

David Hansley, 37, Jark Industrial regional manager, lives in the East Riding of Yorkshire and is running for Cancer Research UK
David is running to raise funds for Cancer Research after his mum was diagnosed with liver cancer three years ago, which she is still battling. David is running to raise money and help Cancer Research care for and support people affected by cancer.

Skilled Healthcare workers needed following record figures for local recruitment agency

A local recruitment agency specialising in providing skilled workers to the health and social care industries is looking to fill over 70 vacancies as a result of its year-on-year growth and success. Jark Healthcare Norwich – the number one Jark Healthcare branch for turnover in the whole of the UK – is looking to recruit experienced support workers, home care assistants and nurses in the Norwich and Norfolk area.

The recruitment agency is already 118 percent over target for the 2010 to 2011 financial year and 130 percent up on last year in terms of growth. This success, coupled with growing client demand, has led to an increase in job opportunities, as Jark Healthcare Norwich sector manager, Gemma Pierce, explains: “We had a great 2010 and are on track to have an even better 2011. As an agency we’re committed to helping our clients provide the best care in Norfolk. We’re looking to expand our member base because of an increased need for skilled healthcare workers, which is great news for the local area.”

Jark is a three-star Care Quality Commission-rated healthcare agency, which has maintained its position as a leader in the recruitment industry. “We offer, among various other incentives and opportunities, competitive pay rates, holiday pay, mandatory training and free NVQ’s to keep training up-to-date. Providing such a good service to people who really need care, help and support, makes our candidates’ jobs some of the most rewarding”, Gemma concludes.

Jark Healthcare Norwich is located on Queen Street and is headed up by Gemma Pierce. The branch can be contacted on 01603 764 030.

Jark plc hosts football event at NCFC in aid of local charity

Local businesses took part in a five-a-side football tournament at Carrow Road on Thursday, 26 May, to raise vital funds for charity. The event at Norwich City Football Club – organised by specialist recruitment agency Jark plc – raised over £6,000 for the Norfolk & Norwich Association for the Blind and was presided over by former Canary legends Jeremy Goss, Dean Ashton, Darren Huckerby and Rob Newman.

Sixteen teams took to the pitch to compete in Jark’s annual event as group managing director, Paul Mizen, explains: “As a Norwich City supporter, it was a huge honour to stage a tournament at NCFC. While it was fun to have a friendly game between local businesses, the real reason was of course to raise money for charity. Through my friendship with the NNAB’s charity event fundraiser Jeremy Goss, I became aware of the wonderful work the charity does and how needed donations are. A big thank you to everyone who took part in the tournament, which was won by Norfolk Ceilings, and for raising such a great sum of money for charity.”

The Norfolk & Norwich Association for the Blind relies wholly on voluntary donations, as its patron, Jeremy Goss, says: “My role, and the role of events like this, is to raise the charity’s profile and raise funds. I’m extremely thankful to Jark for putting on this event, as the money raised will buy various pieces of equipment for Norfolk and Norwich people who have lost their sight. I am full of praise for Paul for getting this event organised and I hope that we can continue to work together in aid of this great cause for many years to come.”

The companies that battled it out on the pitch last night were: Norfolk Vending and Catering Services, ECR, ITV, Norfolk Ceilings, Mattressman, Kier, BMW, Crown Chickens, Langley School, Banham Poultry, Fosters, Morrisons, Morgan Sindall, Copy IT, May Gurney and Fotolec.

Local company outgrows offices after strong levels of growth

A local recruitment agency has relocated to a larger office to capitalise on its year-on-year growth. Despite the recession, Jark Driving Glasgow, which specialises in providing skilled drivers to the transport and distribution industries, has maintained its position as a leader in the recruitment industry.

The specialist recruitment agency, now located on St Vincent Street, hopes that having a more visible, central base will result in new client wins. It is also keen to invest in its people, with the appointment of two new recruitment consultants to provide support, opportunities and expert advice to businesses in Glasgow and its surrounding area. It joins already established Jark Industrial Glasgow at the new office base.

Jark Driving Glasgow divisional manager, Roger Sherratt, explains: “While other recruitment companies are downsizing, we’re investing and expanding our presence.
A local recruitment agency that specialises in providing skilled drivers to the transport and distribution industries is increasing its offering to include non-drivers. Jark Driving Belfast, located on Pottingers Entry, is now looking to provide non-driving staff to the Industrial and Warehousing sectors after identifying a gap in the market.

The agency – which works to deliver a first-class service to clients and candidates –has appointed a new consultant to serve these new areas. Jilly Kerr, who comes from a sales background, is hoping to increase the skill set already supplied to the Northern Ireland marketplace, as Jark Driving Belfast sector manager, Lee Ann Johnston explains.

“We are thrilled to be increasing our offering to the Northern Ireland jobs market and are confident that Jilly will provide a great service to new and existing clients. As an agency we had a fantastic level of growth last year, which saw our market share increase by 20 per cent.
Jarkettes swap office shoes for training shoes as they get set for Race for Life 2011

Workers from specialist recruitment agency Jark plc have got their pink t-shirts and trainers ready in preparation for running Race for Life 2011. Self-named the Jarkettes especially for the race, the team is showing its commitment to Cancer Research by running 10k on Saturday 14 May 2011.

All running for their own reasons, some of the women have shared their personal experiences of cancer below. The Jark plc girls running are: Natalie Money, Melisa Dawson, Gemma Pierce, Charlie Fullerton, Dena Fatseas, Lorna Dootson, Jo Green, Kathy Mitchell, Kerry Barker-Lee, all running the Norwich race, as well as Kathy Mitchell and Kerry Barker-Lee who are running at Welywn. To support the girls visit their sponsor page at www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/jarkettes.

Dena Fatseas, 26, Jark Construction Cambridge, lives in Letchworth Garden City
Dena knows first-hand how cancer can affect a family after losing her mum to lung cancer in June 2005 – days before Dena’s 21st birthday. Unfortunately, her mum was diagnosed with the disease in February 2005, by which time it had already spread to her bones. Dena’s mum had already beaten bowel cancer 10 years previously, but sadly didn’t the second time around. Dena is also running in celebration of her sister who beat breast cancer when she was 26. While her cancer has come back, things are looking positive.

Without the amazing work that Cancer Research does, Dena believes she would not have had her mum for that extra 10 years and that her sister could have lost her battle at an extremely young age. Dena is running because she says any advancements in treatments and cures for cancer makes it worthwhile and, while we’re not going to be able to find a cure tomorrow for cancer, being able to improve the quality of life for sufferers is a bonus.

Charlie Fullerton, 27, Jark Healthcare Norwich, lives in Norwich
Charlie’s mum was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1997 and, after treatment, made a full recovery. However, Charlie knows that it could be a different story if it wasn’t for the brilliant healthcare professionals that looked after her mum. Charlie is running to raise funds for the vital research needed to continue the fantastic work that is done by dedicated healthcare professionals in continuing to treat, diagnose and research cancer.

Gemma Pierce, 28, Jark Healthcare Norwich, lives in Wymondham
While Gemma has run Race for Life in memory of two relatives the last few years, this year she will be running for three – her Granny, Auntie and friend Nathan. Gemma’s granny died from breast cancer on Christmas Day 2005 and her Auntie Winni died from breast cancer following a five-year battle.

Nathan, Gemma’s boyfriend’s friend, was cruelly taken at the age of 32 in November 2008 after losing his battle with bowel cancer. After finding out his illness was terminal, Nathan and his wife Aneliese got married. Five days later, Nathan passed away.

Gemma’s story highlights how cancer can affect people at any age. She is running
because she knows that the more money that is raised, the more of a difference it will make.

Natalie Money, 24, Jark Driving Norwich, from Norwich
Natalie began working for Jark plc in August and is running Race for Life for the first time this year. Natalie has become a great supporter of the charity following a close member of her family suffering and surviving breast cancer twice. While Natalie has witnessed what great work Cancer Research does, she also knows how much more work needs to be done. With one in three people predicted to get cancer at some point in their lives, Natalie is running to raise vital funds and help save lives.

Lorna Dootson, 28, Jark Construction Norwich, lives in Norwich
Lorna is running in memory of her Nan who died from bone cancer eight years ago, as well as a close family friend who she lost to cancer last year. Lorna’s friend had suffered from cancer five years ago and recovered, but when it came back it was incurable. Lorna is proud to be doing her bit for Race for Life and believes that if she can help to save one life it will be worthwhile.

Melisa Dawson, 30, Jark Driving Norwich, lives in Norwich
Melisa is running Race for Life in memory of her granddad. Melisa lost her granddad to prostrate cancer 19 years ago and still misses him dreadfully. Race for Life is really important to her as she can show that the memory of her very special granddad still lives on, while raising money to help beat cancer.

Jon Beadman, Healthcare manager said: “We have identified a clear need for a quality, yet affordable, alternative to nursing or residential care for the increasing number of older people in the UK. The idea of the home support division is to make sure that people keep their independence and don’t have to give up their homes in order to receive care.

“Providing care for the older generation is not the only service we provide, we can help provide care for adults of any age. Recently the family of a 22-year-old came to us for a care plan to help look after their son.”

Jark Healthcare recognises that addressing the future can be daunting which is why each service plan is bespoke and unique. Support at home combines giving you the power to choose your own support, at the best value. In most cases, especially where live-in care or caring for a couple is practical, our weekly service fees offer a significant saving compared to residential/nursing home fees.

Home support packages are tailored to your own personal needs. Contact us to arrange a no-obligation meeting with a highly experienced assessor, who will draft a clear and detailed support delivery plan that is suited to you as an individual. From this we will then identify potential workers.

Jark Healthcare is registered with the Care Quality Commission and is a member of the United Kingdom Home Care Association. This gives you the confidence that all our staff will be appropriately checked, inducted and supervised. All staff we appoint have a yearly Criminal Record Bureau check as well as a mandatory programme of training.

All pay-rolling, administration and invoicing is carried out by Jark - removing the worry of a financial relationship with your care team.

Case study

Gemma Pierce, sector manager, has recently provided a care package for a Norfolk resident who suffers from multiple sclerosis. Gemma said: “I provided a support worker for 62-year-old Mary, who was struggling to carry out her everyday tasks like getting out of bed and making breakfast. Two years on Mary is very happy with the service, but it has also made a huge difference to the life of her husband Eric and the rest of their family.”

Nicola, who looks after Mary and Eric, has been a support worker with Jark since 2009. The 41-year-old said: "I love my job, it's very rewarding, I think of it more like a vocation than a job. No one day is ever the same, I can deal with different people's needs. I get to know the people that I look after as well as being accepted into their homes and families. I arrive at the same time every morning and I get Mary out of bed, prepare breakfast, wash-up and do anything else Mary and Eric need. I'm there to make life easier for both of them, it takes the pressure off and allows Eric respite."

Eric, 63, said: “At first, I didn’t like the idea of someone coming into my house, but after I spoke to Gemma I realised how much it would help me as well as Mary. The carer (Nicola) takes Mary shopping, which I have to admit I don’t particularly enjoy, but we also took Nicola on holiday with us which meant we could enjoy the week as a family and Mary didn’t feel like a burden to us like she usually does.”

Frequently asked questions

I’m worried about letting a stranger into my home. What screening is carried out on your staff?
All Jark care workers are subject to annual Criminal Record Bureau checks, have a full face-to-face interview and a full work history reference check. We are happy to arrange a meeting at your home or our office with any proposed worker prior to engagement. All carers have annual mandatory training covering vulnerable adult training, moving and handling, basic life support, food hygiene and any specialist updates such as dementia care required.

How do I pay the person looking after me?
The workers are on work finder agreements with Jark and therefore we are responsible for all salary, holiday and National Insurance payments. All invoicing is done directly with yourselves.

What if I have any problems?
When we draft your service plan, we will provide details of our complaints procedure as well as ongoing feedback and quality assurance documents. You local branch manager will be a first point of call and will try to resolve any immediate issues. In addition, we are regulated and registered with the National Care Quality Commission and any serious complaints can be escalated to them. Should you feel that you would like to change your care worker, we will address this for you through our internal investigation procedure. Jark Healthcare operate a 24/7 service from Norwich, King's Lynn and Ipswich branches so you will always be able to contact someone.

What will it cost?
This will really depend on the level of care and support required. Live-in care can be a very reasonable option. You may want to discuss support for a few hours a week or just at weekends to relieve family pressure. Full 24hour care teams will incur additional costs. You may be able to access some Social Service contribution, but Jark are unable to advise on this.

What kind of tasks can be supplied?
Again this depends on your own needs and expectations and will be clearly drawn up in your individual service contract. This can range from low level home support, assistance with personal care through to full nursing support. Carers can be expected to offer light household support including housework, meal preparation, light laundry and ironing. Specific tasks can be discussed when we meet for assessment. This could encompass things like shopping, pet care, social activities etc.

What will my carer expect?
For live-in care or supported living with sleep-ins, a designated bedroom with bedding and facilities such as a TV and kettle are expected. Live-in carers will have an agreed roster giving them set days off and time away from work. Live-in carers will generally expect meals to be provided. Teams of care workers delivering more intensive 24/7 support will bring their own food normally.

I would like to engage my own carer directly. Is this possible?
Jark Healthcare can help recruit a carer to be employed directly however there is a fee structure involved and we would advise that employment advice is obtained

TruTac is Just the Job for Jark

Jark Driving, one of the country’s leading driver recruitment agencies, has selected TruTac the tachograph and transport software specialists as their preferred analysis and compliance service providers. After an in-depth selection process Jark chose TruTac, because of their impressive performance history, excellent turnaround times and innovative product range.

“We were very impressed with TruTac’s TruControl analysis product and the quality of their service generally,” states Marc Fleckney, Jark’s Corporate Development Manager. “We needed a partner who could uphold our high levels of service and provide superior management reporting to enable us to accurately monitor and manage drivers and vehicle compliance for our clients”.

TruTac is working closely with Jark on a number of Master Vendor on-site client projects, assisting them in managing and reducing infringements whilst improving compliance levels and helping to protect their O’licence. Jark has realised this partnership adds value to their clients in a number of ways; including reducing VOSA inspections and graduated penalties fines.

Terry Ramsey, TruTac’s Managing Director states “We are pleased our strategy of retaining service levels while developing new products is continuing to serve us well. During a time in which the market is struggling, we have seen competitors use this as an excuse to drop service levels; by charging customers peak rate fees for accessing help lines and reducing analysis quality. We have chosen the opposite and focus on adding value to clients by listening to their requirements and giving them the flexible solutions they need. Jark has recognised our business model compliments theirs and as a team we have already won new clients and plan to expand into new market sectors.”

The UK recession will officially be over on 10th May 2010

Recruiters need to be preparing for the recovery

The UK recession will officially be over on 10th May 2010 – that’s the latest prediction from Bill Boorman. The specialist business consultant to the recruitment industry says that recruiters need to be getting ready for when the recovery comes.

In his recent interview with XtremeRecruiting, Bill explained how we are in the third out of the four stages in a recession, where the temporary and interim market is rising, signalling the beginning of recovery. He advises recruiters to think about how they can maximise on their current business and be ready for the upturn in the permanent recruitment market, for example by starting to build candidate networks again.

“We’re in the recovery period now and that’s great news but we need to be thinking about how we position ourselves” says Bill. “We’re going to have a steady rise between now and May. The market won’t be as big as it was, it will take a few years to get back to the absolute height, but it will back and it will be back in force. Recruiters need to be getting ready.”

“I think the most important thing is looking at your product offering in terms of what service you’re offering. Right now it’s important to offer our clients value and to demonstrate what we’re doing. It’s absolutely essential to be more transparent and what I don’t think we’re very good at as recruiters is showing the value we’re bringing to an organisation. Clients and candidates are looking for value and understanding. The whole landscape of what we need to do as recruiters has changed and we need to re-train ourselves.”

Jark and Start People sign strategic co-operation agreement

USG People announced that its subsidiary Start People has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Jark Recruitment, a subsidiary of Jark Plc (United Kingdom), to strengthen its European approach to clients.

The agreement will allow HR services provider Start People, which is active in 13 European countries, to strengthen its position in European tender procedures. Increasingly, clients tend to sign Europe-wide contracts that also include the UK, not least because a large number of these clients have UK-based head offices. In the past six months Start People and Jark Recruitment have together completed a large number of European tender procedures in the industrial and logistics sector. This has now led to this confirmation of their cooperation.
“The temporary employment market in the UK is characterised by a high degree of fragmentation, stiff competition and relatively low margins. That is why Start People has for the time being opted for strategic cooperation when targeting European clients.
Our cooperation with Jark Recruitment offers opportunities for commercial synergy as we both hold strong positions in the industrial and logistics sector. In addition, the services offered by the two companies (general staffing, in-house services and recruitment & selection) and the respective corporate cultures are a good fit. This is the next step towards realising Start People’s European strategy,” said Ron Icke, CEO of USG People.
“I am delighted with this confirmation of our cooperation. Start People is a renowned European player whose expertise and experience with clients on the continent, combined with our knowledge and understanding of the UK market, should make us even better able to provide services to our clients who operate at European level. Both organisations will now also be able to introduce each other to clients,” said John Buckman, Chairman of Jark Plc.

Jark takes major stake in national recruitment company

1st April 2008: Jark Recruitment, one of the UK’s largest independent recruitment companies has taken a majority stake in the Aptus Group to create a recruitment firm placed in the top 40 out of 13,500 in the UK, with a turnover of £105 million this financial year end March 31st 2008.

The group’s chairman, John Buckman said: “With Aptus joining the Group this moves Jark into a new league, enhancing our capability in dealing with larger and national contracts as well as remaining local through our branch network which now has a broader base covering the UK and into Europe.

“Jark is already a major player in the industrial, construction and healthcare sectors. Aptus will add strength to these, but the acquisition also brings Jark critical mass in other sectors, including public sector and driving as well as inroads into other sectors in catering, retail and small specialists fields where we currently have no representation.

Aptus can trace its trading back to 1963 and prides itself in managing larger national accounts with blue chip top 100 FT index companies. The combined operation is well placed to further build on their reputation.

“This acquisition means our current 5 year plan of achieving £100 million turnover has been out performed two years ahead of schedule. Jark itself had grown its turnover organically to £63 million March 31st 2008 but this acquisition has accelerated our plans. Together, the two companies can immediately begin to operate at a level which neither would have been able to separately.

“The new Jark Group offers staff and clients terrific opportunities and we are well-positioned to continue growing organically and through further acquisitions. A new 5 year plan will be presented at the Jark Annual Conference in May which will be in line with our ambition of being a Top 10 player in the UK recruitment market.”

Under the terms of the deal, Jark Group has acquired a majority shareholding in Aptus, which is currently owned by its three directors, Phill McTaggart, managing director, Steve Gray, IT director and Gary Wiley, finance director. All three will remain with the company.

Jark Healthcare launches innovative training scheme

In a first for the recruitment industry, Jark Healthcare has launched a new training programme for its carers, enabling them to provide learning support as well as medical help.

Sufferers from learning difficulties who develop a medical condition needing specialist care usually have to rely on two or more different carers. This disruption and lack of continuity can have serious emotional effects for the sufferer, upsetting their routine and affecting their overall wellbeing. To overcome this shortage of dual skilled carers, Jark has launched a training programme for experienced carers who also want to provide learning support.

Jark piloted the scheme with 11 carers in its Southend office. All are now working in learning disability or integrated care environments, with very good feedback being received from service users. Following this success, the programme is now being rolled out across Jark Healthcare’s other ten branches.

Kevin Farr, managing director of Jark Healthcare is pleased with the success of the initiative so far, “Having identified a shortage of carers able to offer this mix of skills, we’ve been able to develop a scheme that not only helps our care workers increase their own skills but also helps Jark Healthcare supply staff for integrated care clients, where a mix of enablement, support and hands on care is required”.

The training given by Jark will provide a grounding for carers who work towards NVQ qualifications in care and learning difficulties.

Jark appoints Group Support Manager

Jark Recruitment is bolstering its senior management team with the appointment of Amanda Smith as its first group support manager supporting all the companies under the Jark banner – Industrial, Construction, Healthcare and Commercial.

In her new role at the company’s head office in Dereham in Norfolk, Amanda will be responsible for a range of functions, including developing Jark’s corporate identity, internal and external communications, staff training and HR, as well as keeping all the companies abreast of impending recruitment legislation and industry best practice.

Amanda has a long track record within the recruitment industry spending 16 years in a variety of disciplines including industrial, commercial, construction and search and selection. She has spent the last ten years with Jark Recruitment, most recently as manager of its industrial branch in Ipswich.

During her time with Jark Amanda has helped create a strong team ethos and has trained many consultants who have gone on to become branch managers both within Jark and outside of the company. For the last two years her team in Ipswich has been shortlisted for the Customer Service award for Suffolk Recruitment awards and was awarded the prize in 2007.

John Buckman, chairman of Jark Recruitment says: “With the expansion plans we have for Jark and the rapid growth we have achieved over the last few years we have reached a point where these functions need to be addressed on behalf of all the companies in the group. By creating a central support function for the whole group it ensures that the same practices are carried out throughout.

“The growth plans and new office openings mean we are bringing more companies, individuals and locations into the company, so need a business template to enable people to feel part of Jark and understand our culture and work ethic from the day they start.

“Amanda knows Jark and the company’s ethos inside out and has demonstrated her skills in creating strong teams and good working relationships with clients. In her new role she will be able to use her experience and skills for the benefit of the entire group.”

As a consequence of Amanda’s promotion, Susan Walker has been appointed branch manager of Jark Industrial in Ipswich. Susan has also worked for Jark for 10 years in both Norwich and Ipswich, most recently overseeing the launch of an Industrial operation in Jark’s Norwich branch. In its inaugural year Susan led a team that helped the combined Norwich operation achieve a £6 million turnover, 43 per cent up on the previous year’s trading figures.

“By appointing Susan to manage our Ipswich branch, we have maintained a degree of continuity as she has worked with Amanda in Ipswich before,” says John. “It also demonstrates that within Jark we have the capacity to train staff for senior positions and the opportunities to reward staff who are capable of rising to the challenge of holding management positions.”

Jark Commercial provides temporary and permanent staff for the office-based sector and joins Jark Industrial which has operated from the Kent Business Centre in Maidstone since last year. The combined operation has 31 branches and 220 consultants and had a turnover of £44.7 million in the last financial year.

Just the job for recruitment firm

Jark Recruitment, one of the country's largest independent providers of contract labour, has continued its recent impressive performance with strong growth at the start of its new financial year.
The Dereham-based business has posted first-quarter results showing a 72pc increase in turnover on the same period last year.
In the three months to June 30, Jark's turnover was more than £13m, putting it on course to achieve its annual target of £62.3m and planned annual growth of 40pc.
The figures come on the back of a successful 2006-07, with the business posting annual figures for the year ending March 31 showing a 38pc increase in turnover to £44.7m.
Since 2003, Jark has had specialised divisions focusing on the industrial, construction and healthcare sectors, and last year the company launched a commercial division.
Earlier this year, each division was established as a standalone company. The combined operation now has 31 branches and employs 183 consultants.
“We are extremely pleased with Jark's performance last year,” said chairman John Buckman. “We achieved growth in all four sectors, but had an outstanding increase in market share in our industrial division, which turned in 54pc growth, and construction, which achieved 29pc growth.
“We are very pleased that our strategy of organic growth is continuing to serve us well. The secret of our success is in concentrating on specific market sectors and delivering the promises we make to our customers. During a time in which the market is shrinking, and many of our competitors are making losses, Jark Recruitment has bucked the trend and continues to retain our clients, win new ones and expand into new market sectors.”
Over the past year and a bit, Jark has increased its market share in all areas of the UK where it has a presence, with every branch turning in significant increases in turnover. It also continued to expand its operations around the country.
Locally, Jark Healthcare has opened a branch in King's Lynn, complementing the Jark Industrial branch in the town. Elsewhere within the region, Jark has industrial interests in Norwich and Ipswich; construction interests in Norwich, Cambridge and Ipswich; and healthcare interests in Norwich and Ipswich.
Further afield, its Warsaw branch also went from strength to strength.

Jark Recruitment launches new division in Reading

Jark Recruitment, one of the top one hundred recruitment companies in the UK, is launching the second phase of its new commercial division in Reading. The company, which achieved a record group turnover of £32.36 million last year, chose to open its second commercial office in Reading because of the thriving business community and close proximity to the South of England.

Jark Recruitment, who has until now specialised in the industrial, driving, construction and healthcare recruitment sectors, diversified into commercial recruitment when it opened an office in the Docklands area just one month ago, and now Station Road in Reading is home to its second commercial branch. The branch officially opens on December 11 and will be run by eight staff, including sales consultants and support staff.

From Reading, Jark Recruitment will embark on an ambitious expansion plan for the commercial division, which will include the opening of 20 further commercial offices across the country by 2010.

Jacalyn Parker, Commercial Divisional Manager of Jark Recruitment, comments: “We are delighted to launch the second office of the commercial division in Reading. At the hub of the Thames Valley, Reading gives us the opportunity to supply temporary and permanent commercial recruitment solutions to thousands of recruits across a large and prosperous area, as well as providing us with a platform to branch into the South of England.”

Jacalyn, who joined Jark Recruitment in May and has 13 years experience in the commercial recruitment industry, continues: “We are confident that in a competitive market environment we will be successful. We have set ourselves high start out targets that we are confident will separate us from other agencies straight away. Customer service and candidate retention are central to the way we work, and we pride ourselves on always being able to offer our clients flexible and cost effective recruitment solutions, which is something the company has been doing across the industrial, driving, construction and healthcare recruitment industries since it launched in 1996.

Jark Recruitment opens new branch in Maidstone

Jark Recruitment, one of the UK’s top one hundred recruitment companies, has recently opened a new Industrial branch in Maidstone, the commercial heart of Kent. Jark’s Maidstone branch will provide numerous employment options for the 800,000 strong Maidstone workforce in temporary recruitment for the Industrial market.

Mark Brown, Southern Area Manager for Jark, comments: “We are continuing with our growth target within the Industrial, Construction and Commercial sectors and Maidstone is one of many new branch openings planned. Kent is a new area to us but we will continue to build on our reputation in the rest of the UK as a professional and preferred supplier to many local businesses.”

Jark will provide temporary and permanent recruitment solutions to the Industrial market, including driving, logistics, manufacturing, technical, warehouse and catering.

“From an early stage in Jark’s development we identified Maidstone as an ideal location to introduce another Jark branch where we can reach local, regional, UK, European and even world markets thanks to its location on the main transport routes between London and continental Europe. It is also possible to reach all towns in Kent in under an hour via an excellent public transport network, including railway stations and bus services allowing workers to reach all corners of the county. Its strategic location and cost effective setting holds potential for the expansion and development of the business, both in the city centre and its range of prestigious business parks.”

“The forecasted economic growth and development for Maidstone matches Jark’s own expansion plans, and we look forward to developing our business alongside the city and economy as it grows. £200 million has recently been invested through major projects within the area, which promises Maidstone to be an up-and-coming area to invest in.”

“We are pleased to have put a team in place already at the Maidstone branch with the recruitment of experienced Senior Consultants, Louise Ferguson, Sam Chester and On-Site Co-ordinator Oto Teniss. We are looking to further expand the team over the next few months to consolidate our position within Maidstone’s recruitment market, and drive the branch forward.”

Celebrating 10 successful years in recruitment

Jark Recruitment is proud to be celebrating its first decade in business. Ranked in the top 100 largest recruitment companies in the UK by the Employment Agencies Industry, Jark employs 153 staff in 21 locations across the country and a branch in Poland and, in an industry fierce in competition, turned-over an impressive £32.36 million in the 2005-2006 financial year, which shows a 25 per cent increase on the previous year. The company is on target to achieve a turnover of £42 million this year. This is impressive growth for a company that started in a small business unit in Swaffham in 1996.

Here John Buckman, Chairman of Jark Recruitment, comments on developments within the industry and developments in the business since it began a decade ago: "We have experienced first hand the rapid development of the industry and have worked continuously to adapt to its dynamic behaviour. The recruitment industry in general is becoming a crowded marketplace and is fiercely competitive, but we have stayed ahead by moving with the changes. In the 1990s when UK businesses were outsourcing their HR requirements we grew specialist divisions alongside the industry boom and we have been growing ever since."

"We have witnessed changes in the most popular professions such as a move away from single skilled craftsmen to a preference in the media, IT, marketing and sales sectors, which is why we have recently launched divisions to specialise in those sectors. However it is our focus in the Construction and Industrial markets that is giving us our greatest successes as we out perform our competitors and take market share.

The UK labour market has performed well in recent years, compared to other countries such as the US, Germany and Japan, and now has one of the highest employment rates in its history.

However, the significant benefit that the UK market has over other countries is that only 25 per cent of the market is controlled by the top ten recruitment companies in the country. Compare this to some of the more mature recruitment markets abroad where the top ten agencies control 60 per cent or more of the market, it is easy to see that there is room for competition at the top end of the UK market.

John concludes: "So far, the development of Jark has been achieved through a continuous reinvestment in organic growth and adding other businesses to the group that complement our specialist sectors. But considering the market situation as it is now, it is wide open for a few quality agencies to be aggressive and invest in taking market share. Jark Recruitment plans to do just that. With a proven track record for growth, a strong financial foundation, its investment in people and an experienced management structure, the company plans to expand significantly in its second decade of trading."

Based on Jark Recruitment's rate of expansion last year in which it opened four new offices, the business could quadruple in size in the next decade, and with plans already in place to further expand overseas, European success is also on the horizon for the Norfolk-based company.

Jark Recruitment invests in Cambridge

Jark Recruitment, one of the UK’s top one hundred recruitment companies, is delighted to announce its expansion and relocation plans in Cambridge. The company, which already has a Construction branch on the outskirts of the city, is moving closer to its customers by relocating to the high street and offering more choice by adding an Industrial and Commercial brand.

John Buckman, Chairman for Jark Recruitment, comments: “Cambridge is an important market for us. The introduction of a Commercial brand to the company is new and follows on from the recent launch of the brand in the London Docklands in September. After London, Cambridge was the next logical choice for us to expand within the Commercial sector. It is world-renowned as a centre for innovation, education and culture and is therefore a prime location for business. The town has fantastic growth potential because of its location and the reputation of its Universities, especially within the Commercial market.”

Due to an increasing demand from the public for jobs within the food processing, warehousing and manufacturing industries, an Industrial branch has also been included in the new offices.

John continues: “In a marketplace which is becoming more and more competitive, it is essential we attract as many skilled workers as possible and meet the needs of the broad range of companies we are supplying employees to. It is vital we remain flexible, move with the times and provide the best service possible within the recruitment industry.”

The re-location of the Cambridge branch to the high street is just the beginning for Jark Recruitment nationally. It marks the start of a relocation process, which sees all branches that aren’t already, move to the high street. This involves a total of xx branches.

John concludes: “We are driven by customer service and pride ourselves on the services we offer our clients, candidates and staff. By investing in the services we offer the Cambridge market shows our dedication to the area.”

Jark Recruitment has another record year

Jark Recruitment and associated recruitment companies has finished the 2005/2006 financial
year with a record group turnover of £32.36 million, which is a 25 per cent increase from last
year.
In a market which has had an overall decline of 4.2 per cent and a decline of 11.2 per cent in
the temporary recruitment sector, which is Jark Recruitment’s main marketplace, this is a
successful conclusion to a busy year for the company, who has recently been ranked as the
93rd largest company in the UK by the Employment Agencies Industry.
John Buckman, Chairman of Jark Recruitment and associated companies, comments: “We
are delighted with our success and attribute this to the high calibre of existing staff and the
quality of consultants* and candidates joining us, both of which are testament to our high
quality standards while keeping the services we offer both cost effective and efficient. As a
result we have expanded our client base by 22 per cent throughout the year as well as
maintaining high client retention levels. All divisions of the company contributed to our
success – construction, industrial, driving, healthcare and commercial all increased sales and
gross profit.”
John continues: “We were especially pleased with our performance as our actual results were
only one per cent out from the targets we set ourselves at the beginning of the year. In a
market, which has experienced an overall decline, this is an impressive achievement. It is my
opinion that the UK market is fragmented and, with the increase in legislation and
competition, it is likely that the industry will go through a period of consolidation.”
“In the more mature recruitment markets in the world, such as America and Holland, over 60
per cent of the market are controlled by the top ten national agencies. In the UK, the top ten
agencies control less than 25 per cent of the market, which means the market here is wide
open for a few quality agencies to be aggressive and invest in taking market share. I believe
Jark Recruitment can be one of those companies, having established a strong financial
foundation, a proven track record for growth and an experienced and good quality
management team with some of the best staff in the recruitment industry.”
“Jark Recruitment is positive about the year ahead, we have set ourselves the target of
increasing sales by 30 per cent and gross profit by 32 per cent to help us achieve a group
turnover of £42.10million.”
Jark Recruitment plans further branch openings to complement the four new offices, which
opened across the UK last year, as well as overseas expansion based on the success of the
Poland branch opening, and investment in infrastructure, to further strengthen their position in
the market throughout 2006-2007.

Jark pioneers new technology for job feeds to the net

Jark Recruitment, one of the top one hundred recruitment companies in the UK, is the first in the industry to implement new technologies on the Internet to keep job seekers up-to-date with jobs as they break on to the market.

In a world heaving under the weight of billions of web pages, keeping up to date with forever changing information you want can be time-consuming and frustrating, especially in a world where good jobs and good staff are snapped up fast.

Based on the scheme, which keeps people up-to-date with breaking world news, Live Bookmarks place a link in the web browser, which updates a list of jobs and available staff from Jark’s website without the need to keep checking the site. RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds are also available for the consumer to use in customised home pages on search engines such as Google, MSN, Yahoo, AOL or with news reader application.

Danny Parr, Technical Director for the Jark group who developed this service, comments: “We came up with the idea after seeing what was being done in the news arena to deliver breaking headlines to the consumer. The Internet is flooded with news and information and RSS feeds are invaluable in enabling news vendors to get their story to the consumer first with minimal effort. With the Job Board market place becoming just as competitive, we decided it was time to take the hassle out of online job hunting and have utilised this technology for delivering jobs to the consumer. We have added RSS Feeds to all our job board sectors for all companies within in the group and, in addition, added Live Bookmark links to all the sites so that all the latest jobs, and available staff as well as news and features are delivered directly to our subscribers, rather than them having to click from site to site. All you have to do is click on one icon to receive to the requested information, and we do the rest for you.”

“We undertook considerable research on the best way to present the technology to the consumer and what makes the Jark site unique is the ease in which the consumer can access the technology. Anyone can visit the site, click the desired feed and be presented with five of the most popular online search engine news readers. Clicking these links will automatically set-up the consumer’s computer for our feed. We also present links to the some of the popular news reader applications.”

“If a visitor is using one of the ’new breed’ of Internet browsers such as Firefox, IE 7 or Opera, they will, upon entering the Job Board immediately find the ’Live Bookmark’ icon available within the browsers tool bar, one click and they have a live feed straight from the specific category of jobs or staff they require delivered to their desktop. This will be updated automatically by the browser as new jobs or staff are posted to our site. For those people who use news readers regularly, they can simply drag an icon from our site and drop it on to their news reader.”

“We have spent considerable time on the ’behind the scenes’ design of these sites. Utilising new standards and technologies in CSS, XML, XSL, HTML and RSS ensuring our site is W3C compliant and is therefore accessible to all on almost any device or platform and is optimised for the consumer. We’ve looked at different solutions to provide the job search market with the tools they really want to make searching for jobs quick and easy. The website is flexible and user friendly, making the latest technology available in an attractive and simple to use environment”

Mr Parr concludes: “I am positive that within the next six to twelve months you will see this technology become the standard in the recruitment industry as job sites compete more and more for their share of the Internet marketplace, and that companies not using it will be in the minority. We are proud to be the first to realise this and lead the way forward.”

Macmillan Nurses & Jark's 3 peak challenge

Macmillan Nurses benefit from Norfolk teams 3 peak challenge.

Richard Morrissey, a Director of the Industrial division of Jark Recruitment, based in Dereham, has successfully completed the 3 peaks challenge for charity together with a team of 14 and raised over £4,000 for the Macmillan Nurses Fund.

The team took on the challenge of climbing Ben Nevis, ScaFell and Snowdonia, the three tallest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales, in just over 24 hours.

The challenge started in Scotland at 8am on Saturday 23rd July at the base of Ben Nevis standing at 4,408 ft, Ben Nevis took the team just 3 hours to climb and 2 hours to descend. A seven-hour drive followed as the climbers set off for ScaFell in Wales, where the 3,205 ft peak awaited. The team managed to climb up and down ScaFell in three hours 50 minutes with the descent made by torchlight. By the time they reached the bottom at 12.15 am on Sunday morning, they were ready for a well-needed rest. The team managed to catch four hours (disturbed!) sleep as they travelled through the night to arrive at their final challenge at Snowdonia.

The Welsh peak took two hours 15 minutes to climb and under two hours to descend for 13 of the group, while the remaining two decided to run up and down the 3,560 ft of Snowdonia! In total, 1,270 miles were driven between Friday morning and Saturday afternoon, 11,173 feet climbed, 72 bottles of Lucozade drunk and 60 bananas eaten!

Richard Morrissey describes what it was like to take part in such a physically demanding challenge: “The whole team really wanted to complete the challenge in under 24 hours, five of the 15 climbers made it in 24 hours but with heavy traffic, a broken down minibus, injured team members and four hours unbroken sleep, it was unfortunately not to be for everyone. However, as a team, we only missed our target by one hour and five minutes, which is still a fantastic feat.”

“Snowdonia was the most gruelling challenge we faced, with 60 mph winds and the whole climb completed in thick fog. Morale and motivation was pushed to the limits as people suffered fatigue, tiredness, dehydration and extremely sore feet and legs. However team spirit and the determination to succeed ensured everyone completed the task.”

“We are thrilled with the sponsorship raised. Money is still coming in but we estimate the final total will be between £4,000 and £5,000 going to the Macmillan Nurses Fund. The challenge was completed in the memory of my father in-law who we lost to cancer last year and we hope the money raised will help the nurses continue with the fantastic care they give to patients every day of the year. We would like to thank everyone who sponsored us and we are looking forward to planning a new challenge next year, after a bit of recuperation of course!”

Sponsorship is still being collected for Richard and the team’s 3 peaks challenge. If you would like to add to the funds already collected for the Macmillan Nurses Fund, please make cheques payable to Macmillan Nurses Fund: c/o Richard Morrissey, JARK Recruitment Ltd, Beechurst, Commercial Road, Dereham, Norfolk, NR19 1AE.
