Report shows that an unemployed person in Hull is competing with 79 people for a job

Posted on 11th April 2012

Up to 80 unemployed Britons are chasing a single job vacancy in parts of the UK, according to new research.

Job search website Adzuna has revealed that an average of 79.64 applications are handed in for each job vacancy in Hull, with the jobs market also shown to be extremely competitive in Stoke-on-Trent, Sunderland, Southend and the Wirral.

This is in stark contrast to other parts of the UK, with fewer than two claimants per vacancy recorded in Reading, Cambridge, London and Milton Keynes.

Nationally, engineering, computing and sales and marketing are the sectors with the strongest demand for jobs.

Andrew Hunter, of Adzuna, said: "Policymakers should take note of where the jobs are being created and make sure that people are being trained in the right skills in the right locations."

Firms in Hull looking for assistance during their recruitment process could go to Jark, which has an office located in the city specialising in the driving, industrial and healthcare sectors.
